OpenSea Experiences Data Breach - NFT marketplace OpenSea experienced a widespread data breach impacting 1.8 million email addresses. The company is warning its users about the potential for email phishing attacks, saying “if you have shared your email with OpenSea in the past, you should assume you were impacted.” If you are an OpenSea user, be on the lookout for any suspicious messages. Cybercriminals may try to send emails that look similar to those sent by OpenSea. If you have questions about an email you receive, send it to the BlackCloak Concierge team, and we will be able to tell you whether the message is legitimate or not.
Interpol Arrests 2,000 Cybercriminals- A coalition of law enforcement agencies from around the world, led by Interpol, arrested 2,000 cybercriminals who were conducting social engineering scams, such as romance scams, business email compromise attacks and other schemes where malicious actors will pose as reputable entities to try and coerce victims into turning over money or personally identifiable information. These scams can be quite costly to victims. The FTC said U.S. citizens lost $547 million to romance scams in 2021, while the FBI found BEC schemes resulted in $2.4 billion in reported total losses. As a reminder, no one from a government agency, tech company or any other reputed entity will try to contact you and ask for money, login credentials or any personally identifiable information.
