We have two updates to provide our members, one related to Facebook information on the dark web, and one related to the very recent Ubiquiti breach.

Facebook - Overview

Facebook had a coding flaw in 2019 that allowed intruders to access the personal information of 533 million users.  (This is old news.)  What is new about this incident is that (a) the information is now leaked on the dark web and (b) it includes names, email addresses, and cell phone numbers.

What Should You Do?

There is little for you to do here aside from being more aware of scammers having increased access to your cell phone number and email address for phishing and other types of scams.  The best advice here is to remain vigilant. If you receive a questionable email, text message or phone call, let us know and we can provide further advice and guidance.

Ubiquiti - What Happened?

In January 2021, we let our members know of a potential breach at Ubiquiti Networks.  It now appears as though hackers may have had more access to the internal systems at Ubiquiti than previously thought.  A whistleblower has come forward and given additional information that leads us to reiterate our prior guidance.

What Should You Do?

If you own any Ubiquiti products, we recommend you follow Ubiquiti's guidance:

1. Reset your password (if not done so already);
2. Ensure all device firmware is fully patched (ask your IT provider to check); and
3. Enable dual factor authentication on your accounts (if not done so already).
