Samsung disclosed it has recently experienced a data breach. The company said the breach occurred in late July, and Samsung has started notifying customers affected by the breach.
What Information Is, and Isn't, At Risk:
Compromised data points for customers could include names, dates of birth, contact and demographic information and product registration information.
Social Security numbers and payment card numbers were not impacted.
What To Do About This?
If you are a Samsung customer, you should consider taking the following steps:
Lookout for any suspicious messages. You may receive emails or text messages asking you for personal information or login credentials, and they may be sent from someone posing as a Samsung representative. If you receive such a message, do not engage with the message or click any links. Instead, send it to the BlackCloak Concierge Team and we will advise you on the next steps to take.
Review your accounts for any suspicious activity.
While Social Security numbers and payment card numbers were not among the affected data points, you may want to consider placing a credit freeze and/or temporary 1 year fraud alert on your accounts out of an abundance of caution.
