BlackCloak is pleased to announce the launch of our own QR code scanner. The QR code scanner can be accessed right in your BlackCloak mobile application.

QR codes have become increasingly popular over the last couple of years, as they are a convenient way to pull up websites and access services. However, cybercriminals have also taken advantage of their popularity to create QR codes that link to malicious websites, which if clicked upon, could trigger downloads of malware or possibly be the first steps in a phishing campaign.

While your camera will not be able to identify malicious links within a QR code, the BlackCloak QR code scanner can. Our scanner will be able to tell whether the URL in the QR code is legitimate, or a possible malicious or scam website. If a malicious URL is found, the scanner will allow you to return back to the app safely.

The scanner also gives you the ability to report these malicious QR codes directly to BlackCloak. By reporting these codes, you'll not only help us track down bad QR codes, but you'll also help provide additional protection to the BlackCloak community.
