It is being reported this morning that the Federal Bureau of Investigation ("FBI") has potentially had its' email systems compromised and bad actors are sending out spam emails via the agency's email infrastructure.
What to Know About this Potential Breach:
Emails purporting to be from the Department of Homeland Security ("DHS") are being sent to various recipients stating "sophisticated" cyberattacks are underway and to "check your systems and IDS monitoring."
The email originated from eims@ic.fbi.gov with messages including terms like "Stay Safe," "Cyber Threat Detection and Analysis," "Network Analysis Group," and "the extortion gang The DarkOverlord."
What To Do About This?:
The FBI will not send mass emails out to private citizens on cyber attacks, so watch out for email scams claiming to be from the FBI/DHS. You'll want to delete the email immediately, but as a reminder, you can always contact us or forward suspicious emails to our team so we can let you know what to do.
As always, if you have any questions, please let us know by emailing us at ask@BlackCloak.io. We are happy to help!
