BLACKCLOAK - National Public Data Breach Affects Billions

Hi BlackCloak Client,

The data broker National Public Data experienced a major data breach earlier this year where sensitive data was stolen. Please pay close attention to this email and any following developments, and be prepared to take action, even if it's out of an abundance of caution.

The group behind the attack claims to have stolen the personal records belonging to 2.9 billion people, and the stolen information includes names, Social Security numbers, addresses, date of birth and phone numbers.

Due to the sensitive nature of the information stolen, billions could be at risk of identity theft. BlackCloak is analyzing this latest leak, and will reach out to those who have been directly affected. In the meantime, there are steps you can take proactively to protect yourself.

What Should You Do?:

Place a credit freeze and fraud alert on your accounts with the three major credit reporting agencies, Equifax, Experian and TransUnion, which you can do through the BlackCloak application. You can also schedule a concierge session and BlackCloak can walk you through the process.
Remove your information from data broker / data aggregator sites (BlackCloak does this for members on an ongoing basis).
Continuously monitor your accounts for any fraudulent activity.
Be on the lookout for any suspicious text messages you may receive, as they may be a part of a "smishing" campaign.
