In response to a severe security vulnerability, Google and Microsoft have released an emergency security update for all Chrome and Edge users. If you use Chrome or Edge, it is important to ensure you are running the latest version of the browsers, as Google has announced cybercriminals have already taken advantage of the flaw.

Little is known about the nature of the vulnerability, but it was deemed severe enough for Google and Microsoft to release an update dedicated to patching it. Rarely are updates built around a single flaw, which highlights the importance of downloading the latest version of both browsers.

Here's how you can download the latest version of Chrome and Edge.

Downloading Chrome Updates:

• In Chrome, click on the More button in the top right corner, which looks like three dots.
• In the More menu, click on Settings.
• On the left hand side of the screen, click on About Chrome.
• Here, you will be able to download the latest version of Chrome. Make sure you download version 99.0.4844.84.
• Restart your browser to complete the update.

Downloading Edge Updates

• Click on the More button on the top right corner of your Edge browser, represented by three dots.
• Click on Settings.
• On the left hand corner of the screen, select About Microsoft Edge.
• Download the update and restart your browser.
• When your browser restarts, make sure you are running version 99.0.1150.55.
