While April Fool’s Day may be a day filled with jokes and pranks, it's important to remember that cyber attacks are no joking matter. The cybersecurity and privacy of our members is paramount. As always, we've included tips and tricks to help you remain vigilant.
SC Media 2021 Trust and Excellence Award Finalist
BlackCloak has been recognized as a Trust and Excellence Award finalist in the Best Mobile Security Solutions category for 2021 by SC Media. SC Media has been the premier cybersecurity industry publisher for over 30 years. Finalists are recognized for outstanding products and solutions impacting the cybersecurity industry, and winners will be announced in May.
We're extremely proud and honored to have been selected as a finalist and, more importantly, thrilled to deliver our updated protection suite to our members.
Don't Get Fooled
With all the jokes and pranks floating about, cyber criminals will hop on that bandwagon in hopes to catch some unsuspecting victims. However, here are some common scams to be aware of.
Phishing emails, text messages, or direct messages
As if we didn't already get enough spam, you'll likely see a rise today (and this week) with additional subject lines like "Today's Joke" or "Happy Fools Day", but there are things to look out for:
Check for grammatical or spelling mistakes.
Verify the sender.
Don't click on links or download attachments from unknown senders.
Pay close attention to requests for money or personal information.
April Fool's Day Internet pranks
Like Volkswagen, other companies, brands, and bad actors may decide to play into the fake news this week. You may feel the urge to click that headline, but wait:
Look for hyperlink discrepancies by hovering over a link with your mouse or cursor to see the actual website address you'll be directed to. If it looks weird, it probably is.
Consider waiting a day or two after the first of April to view new messages or news that might be prank related or fake news.
Avoid clicking on pop-ups on websites that advertise "too good to be true" deals. They probably are too good to be true.
Download the Latest Version of the Mobile App
The BlackCloak mobile app, version 1.2.17, is now available in the app stores for Apple & Google. If you have automatic updates enabled on your device, your app may have already updated. However, if you want to check or push the update to your device, navigate to your device's app store: Apple or Google. If an update is available, press the “Update” button to update to the latest version.
